Earning CPE Credits

Drake Software is proud to be a qualified sponsor of continuing education with the National Registry of CPE Sponsors (NASBA), the California Tax Education Council (CTEC), and the Internal Revenue Service.

Drake Software offers current customers four ways to receive CPE credit, and prospective customers two ways to receive CPE credit. Any prospective Drake Software customer can earn up to 12 CPE credits just for reviewing our software and attending an informational Sales Seminar.

2007 Evaluation Guide
The Drake Software Evaluation Guide offers you the opportunity to evaluate Drake’s tax preparation software and familiarize yourself with its capabilities. Upon completion of the evaluation guide, you will be able to:
  • Navigate Drake Software.
  • Prepare basic 1040, 1120, and 1065 returns.
  • Examine returns.
  • Electronically file returns.

2008 Drake Basic Level Tax Course
The Drake Software basic tax course introduces new customers to tax preparation by reviewing IRS terminology and tax law, and by demonstrating how Drake data entry works with the tax law. Topics include: filing status, dependents, exemptions, standard deductions, income, child and dependent care credit, Earned Income Credit, Education Credit, IRAs and Schedule C. No prerequisites are necessary to participate in this self-study (distance-learning) basic course. Four CPE credits are available to those who complete the course and make the required grade on the exam.

2008 Drake Intermediate Level Tax Course
The Drake Software intermediate level tax course is similar to the basic course but delves more deeply into Schedules A, C, D, E, and F, plus a Clergy Return course and takes a more thorough look at depreciation. As is the case with the basic course, the intermediate course is divided into study units with a comprehensive examination following completion of the course. Four CPE credits are available to those who complete the course and make the required grade on the exam.

2008 Drake Basic Corporate Tax Course
The 2008 Drake Software Basic Corporate Tax Course explains the various parts of a corporate 1120 return and shows the student how to use corporate “books” to complete an 1120 in Drake Software. The course includes an in-depth look at Schedule L, plus L-1 and L-2 (Assets and Liabilities), M-1 and M-2 (Reconciliation of the Income Statement and Retained Earnings), Depreciation, and the use of form 4562. The course consists of three study units followed by a comprehensive examination. No prerequisites are necessary to participate in this self-study basic course and three CPE credits are available to those who complete the course and make the required grade on the exam.

2008 Drake Basic Partnership Tax Course
The 2008 Drake Software Basic Partnership Tax Course describes and explains the various parts of a 1065 partnership return and shows the student how to create and balance a partnership return in Drake Software. The course describes the different types of partnerships, passive activity, entering data on a K-1, exporting a K-1, and schedules L, M-1, and M-2. The course consists of three study units followed by a comprehensive examination. No prerequisites are necessary to participate in this self-study basic course and two CPE credits are available to those who complete the course and make the required grade on the exam.

Summer Training
Get acquainted with Drake Software by attending our summer training courses. Three courses are offered to introduce new clients to Drake Software and refresh current users. Drake 101 teaches the basics of data entry, program setup and e-filing. Drake Extras will introduce the value-added features of Drake Software including Drake Document Manager, Drake Email, Tax Planner, Reports, Client Status Manager and more. Client Write-Up is designed to introduce tax preparers to Drake Software's accounting, payroll, and accounts payable program. Participants will learn how to set up clients, pay employees, reconcile accounts to bank statements, pay vendors, and electronically file tax forms

From learning the basics of Drake Software to discovering what’s new for tax professionals, Drake customers can expect to be well prepared for the upcoming tax season after attending one of the 2008 Drake Software Update Schools. The schools' instructors introduce and explain enhancements to the software, changes in IRS laws and regulations, and the use of Drake's business management tools to maximize productivity and business potential.
