Jami Gibson Discusses New Tax Scam - EP7

Since its formation in 2015, the Security Summit's efforts to thwart cybercriminals have successfully driven down the number of tax-related identity theft incidents. Unfortunately, that success has forced identity thieves to adapt their methods, resulting in a new tax scam that might seem unorthodox at first.

Drake Software Vice President of Internal Operations Jami Gibson stopped by the podcast studio to discuss this new scam and what taxpayers and tax professionals can do to prevent being a victim of identity theft. As an industry co-lead in the Security Summit's Authentication Work Group, Jami works on developing means of identity proofing taxpayers when they file and identifying aspects of a return that can help the IRS and state tax agencies track fraud.

Whether designing superheroes, penciling caricatures, or just doodling, I always knew I was going to earn some sort of art degree while in college. That was my goal before I decided to trade Edgar Degas for Edgar Allan Poe during a Freshman English class. The BA in English soon morphed into a double-major in English and Philosophy, eventually becoming an MA in English. It only makes sense that I learned of a writing opportunity for a local marketing firm while teaching a first-year college English course. Before I knew it, I was writing and editing tax-related articles for Taxing Subjects, and this has been my home since 2014.
