This option is used to set up the letterhead, logo, margins and other information that prints at the top of client letters and bills. To access Page Layout, go to Setup > Communications Editor > Setup > Page Layout.


Letter Options (Prints ONLY on the first page of each letter/bill)


    • Use letterhead on letters – Choose this option to print the formatted letterhead on the client letters.
    • Use letterhead on bill – Choose this option to print the formatted letterhead on the client bill. 

Important: Edit letterhead by choosing from the Open drop list in the Client Communications Editor. For example:  Open > Individual > Letterhead (All Packages). While you can access the letterhead editor from any package (Individual, Corporation, etc.);  the changes made to one are reflected in all letters of all packages.

    • Use logo on letters – Choose this option to use the selected logo on the client letters.
    • Use logo on bill – Choose this option to use the selected logo on the client bill.
    • Logo position Top – Choose this option to move the logo down, enter the print row on which to start printing. 
    • Logo position Left – Choose this option to move the firm information to the right, enter the print column on which to start printing.
    • Letterhead margin (inches) - Choose this option to adjust the letterhead from the left or right margin
    • Browse for bitmap logo – Enter or browse for the logo's path. You can select any black and white bitmap image or use the default bitmap image included in the program.

Letter Margins

Note

Values are inches. For example, enter 2 to set the margin to 2 inches. Enter .5 to set the margin to 1/2 inch.

 

    • Top margin First page only – Adjusts the top margin of the first page of a letter and bill. The shipped default value is 1.5 (1 and 1/2 inches). If no letterhead used, you may want to adjust this setting.
    • Top Margin – Adjusts the top margin settings. The shipped default value is .5 (1/2 inch).
    • Left Margin – Adjusts the left margin settings. The shipped default value is .5 (1/2 inch).
    • Right Margin – Adjusts the right margin settings. The shipped default value is .5 (1/2 inch).
    • Bottom Margin – Adjusts the bottom margin setting. The shipped default value is .75 (3/4 inch).

 

Border Options


    • Use border on letters – This option adds a double-line border to all letters and is selected by default. If you want to remove the border from the letters, remove the check mark from the check box.
    • Use border on bill – The options adds a double-line border to the bill and is selected by default. If you want to remove the border from the bill, remove the check mark from the check box.

 

Additional Image (Printed on every page of the letter. Does NOT print on the bill)


    • Use  image on letters – Check this box to use an extra image in the letter.
    • Top – Enter a row value on which to start printing the selected image.
    • Left – Enter a column value on which to start printing the selected image.
    • Browse for additional image – Click this link to open the File Chooser to location a bitmap image.

 

Footer Options (Printed on every page of each letter. Does NOT print on bill)


Use footer on letters – Choose this option if you want the footer template to be added to your letters. You can modify this template within the Communications Editor, if you like.

 

E-signature Options (Printed on the LAST page of the Engagement letter)


You can set up your program to electronically sign engagement letters with the signature of the taxpayer and spouse on a 1040 return or a representative of a business or entity on an entity return (1120, 1120S, 1065, 1041, 990, or 706).

    • Use E-Sig on Engagement letters – Check this box and choose a tax package from the Select Package drop list if you want clients to electronically sign their Engagement letters.
    • Use the Top and Left fields under the Signature 1 position to adjust the default position of the taxpayer’s signature for 1040 returns or that of a business entity representative.
    • Use the Signature 2 position fields, enter the signing positions of the spouse’s signature for joint 1040 returns. Click Update.
    • Continue to update other packages as needed. By selecting them from the Select Package drop list and entering the necessary Top and Left coordinates for each signature used.


Note

Engagement signature defaults are set to Top: 10 and Left: 1. This places signatures on the bottom of the last page of the Engagement the letters. If the return type does not have or usually does not use a second signature, the Signature 2 position (inches) defaults are blank.
