IRS Individual e-File Start Date

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced in IR-2024-04 that they will begin accepting and processing 2024 individual tax returns on January 29, 2024. The news release also provides tips, key dates, and other details about the filing season.

Here is some additional information to help you plan for an easier opening to filing season:

• Returns sent to Drake Software before January 29, 2024, will be held in a queue and will be transmitted to the IRS once the agency begins processing. Note that certain returns may be submitted to the IRS before January 29 for e-file testing purposes. Acknowledgments may be received during this time but are not guaranteed.
• The IRS began accepting business returns on January 11, 2024.
• The 2024 individual filing season deadline is April 15, 2024.
