10471: 1040 - Form 8878

1040 Individual

What is Form 8878? If I am not filing an extension, how do I remove it?

Form 8878 allows the taxpayer to authorizes the electronic return originator (ERO) to enter or generate their personal identification number (PIN) on Form 4868 or Form 2350. It is generated in Drake Tax by checking the 4868 with payment box on the PIN screen.

Form 8878 should be completed and signed by the taxpayer(s) prior to the federal extension being e-filed. The 8878 Instructions specify that the ERO should "Retain the completed Form 8878 for 3 years from the return due date or IRS received date, whichever is later."

If Form 8878 is no longer needed, on the PIN screen in data entry make sure that the proper selection has been made in the Select Form section.
