What state extensions can be e-filed in Drake Tax?
Drake Tax supports several state extensions for e-filing in the different return types. See the table below for extensions that can be e-filed with a federal extension or with the main federal return. They are also listed on the EF screen in the drop lists for the Select other states/cities to e-file fields.
To generate any of these extensions in the business packages, go to Data Entry > States tab > Select desired state > Enter the Screen Code listed below. Select to generate the extension and make any other needed entries (amount due, etc.). The extension will be shown in view mode. For 1040 returns only, the STEX screen is available on the States tab from which you can generate multiple state extensions with fewer entries. See Related Links below for details.
Make sure to change the EF Selections screen to indicate only the return type(s) that you want to file - state selection codes indicated below - before selecting and transmitting the extensions.

Additional Information
Some states may accept online extensions. For more information on state extensions, log in to the Drake Support Website, and on the home page select Support > Documents > Federal/State Facts.
Notes:
- Where there is a balance due: all states require a balance due (or most of it) to be paid on the original filing date, to avoid penalty and interest, regardless of whether an extension is filed or granted.
- This information is provided as a convenience. Since state laws vary widely, you should review the specific state requirements before you file.
- Some states will only accept an e-filed extension request.
- Some extensions are only able to be e-filed if there is a payment due.
For more information on how to file specific state extensions, see the respective state's FAQ screen within the Drake Tax state module.
