14899: Statement Numbers in View

Fed Returns Generally

Why are my statements appearing in non-sequential order on my return? There are only two statements, but they are numbered Statement #4 and Statement #5, why are they not numbered 1 and 2?

Statement numbers are generated in an order that conforms with IRS guidelines and to allow information to be transmitted consistently with e-filed returns. When a line requires or produces a statement automatically, it always has the same statement number, no matter whether or not lines that precede or follow are required to have statements on that particular return.

The number of the statement for line items is static. For example, Statement #1 on an 1120S return will always refer to line 5 and Statement #2 will always refer to line 19.

Even if line 5 does not have data on it for a particular return, it does not mean that line 19 will ever use Statement #1:

This provides consistency between returns and for IRS reference. There is no way to change this order structure in Drake Tax.
