How do I clear Tennessee EF Message 0401 or 0004? I have entered an account number in TN data entry, but the message is still produced. Why?
The following information applies to both individual and business returns. TN EF Message 0401 or 0004 will be generated if the TN account number entered on screen 170 or 183 is either missing, or does not meet the requirements for that field. Requirements/validation varies depending on when the account number was issued by the TN DOR. Use the search feature on the TN DOR website to verify the account number for the individual or entity.
For Form 170, Franchise and Excise Tax Return, or Form 183 Franchise and Excise Exemption Application/Annual Renewal, account numbers are entered in the Account Number field on screen 170 or 183 in TN data entry. Account numbers:
- Start with a 1 or 0.
- Must be 10 digits long.
